Best Man, Blessing
Hello! I’m glad to see that all of you
could make it to the wedding this evening. I am Marcy’s
brother, Keith. Have you ever seen a more beautiful
couple than my sister, Marcy and her new husband, Steve?
I feel so blessed to be here today. Our
family has seen it’s fair share of drama, trials and
tribulations, but it is celebrations such as today that
remind us that God has truly smiled down on us. As I
look out to the crowd and see my family, it’s easy to
see that through their tears of joy, true happiness for
Marcy and Steve is their wish.
Marcy is my older sister by 10 years.
Since I’m only 17 now, that would make her 27, right?
Ok, it doesn’t matter how old she is, what does matter
is that I feel so fortunate to have been her kid
brother! I always knew that Marcy acted as my protector
and I always knew I was safe when I was around her. She
can be ferocious as a tiger when she has to defend her
cub, and I think she probably thought of me as her cub
on more than one occasion. I know that when she and
Steve have children of their own, they will without
doubt; have the best mom in the world! She’s already
had tons of practice in helping to raise all of us!
Our blessings seem too much to count, but
if I do a fast recap, I know that we owe a great tribute
to our Lord for our success.
When we see Stephanie tonight, we realize
that her guardian angel was sitting on her shoulder when
she decided to match wits with an 18-wheeler! I think
she’s probably the only person I ever knew who would
actually have combat with a semi and still come out
fighting! Seriously, though, Stephanie, we thank God
every day that you and Jim are getting better and that
we still get to see your beautiful smiling face each
day.
Looking beyond Stephanie, I see my mom
and dad, beaming. When Marcy asked her father and my
father to walk her down the isle, I realized how
fortunate she was to have both men in her life, and I
was honored that she had asked my dad to assist in this
wonderful task. I owe so much to my parents. My father
is the best role model of a father, and a man, that I
could have ever asked for. My mother offers wonderful
support and complete unconditional love for each of us.
It is something we take advantage of, and it is
something that we know is a true blessing.
My loving Nana is in attendance tonight.
Nana has been a second mother to me. She, too, offered
unconditional love and stepped in as the role of mother
when she was needed. She has been nothing short of an
angel watching over us for the past thirty years, and
when she moves to Idaho, her presence will be greatly
missed. I hope that Nana is going to be getting a big
house, because we all plan on visiting her and spending
as much time as possible!
I’d like to thank my Grandpa and Grandma
for their love and support and it is only recently that
I have become to appreciate the wisdom that emanates
from my Grandfather. I am so glad that I am now getting
to know my grandfather as an equal, an adult, and as a
friend as well.
Lastly, I want to mention the burst of
sunshine that is in our lives, and that is my niece
Mia. Mia, I know you must be sick of all of your
relatives who think of themselves as your mother or
father, but each of us feels that you have brought such
joy to our family, and we all want to claim you! You
are the center of our lives, our family, and you are our
joy.
Marcy and Steve, you have tons of people
here today that love you greatly. Marcy, we are so
happy that you have found Steve, the perfect match for
you. He is a man of integrity and honor and we know
that yours, with the help of the good Lord above, will
be an everlasting union!
I understand that you went through pre-cana
classes to prepare for the wedding. A weekend retreat
with your partner where you don’t even get to be
together…hmmm, sounds real romantic! I’m sure there
were many things that you found were valuable to your
future, and I hope that the questions they asked were
more potent than “do you leave your toenail clippings
around”, or “do you read in bed”? Whatever their
questions were, I know that in the end you realized that
your level of compatibility is unmatched, and that it
was meant to be for you to be joined together as man and
wife.
You glow with love for one another, and
our prayers go with you for a marriage committed to God,
and for your union to be blessed by Him. I do have one
word of advice for you, and that is to remember that
before you go to bed each night to give all of your
troubles to God…He’s going to be up all night anyway!
Seriously though, nothing could be more precious than a
marriage fully committed to the will of God, and that is
my wish for you today.
I would like to thank the Lord for the
people in our lives: My Grandfather, my grandmother, my
nana and my parents, my three brothers, Stephanie, Mia,
and Marcy, Jim, and now Steve. May the hand of God
guide your marriage; may your home be happy, contented
and filled with His Spirit; and may He bless you every
day of your lives.
To Marcy and Steve,
our newlyweds!
