Best Man, Friend of the Groom
Hi, I’m Shane, the Best Man, and
therefore, the one who’s responsible to toast the new
couple. I’m not big on speeches, but Tyler is one of my
oldest friends. So here I am. Those of you from
Chiropractic School may not know it, but to Tyler, a
friend is a friend for life. So beware, once you’re “in”
you can’t get out – not even if you want to, and you
could be signing up for more than you bargained for.
I’m actually glad to have this
opportunity. I’m really glad to be the one who gets to
take a shot or two at Tyler when he can’t defend
himself. After tonight, that’s Justine’s job. Tyler’s
always been a good sport through all our wise-cracks
about him being a sensitive guy. How about it, guys,
let’s put that one to rest tonight, as our wedding gift
to Tyler and Justine? After all, we can still tweak him
about forcing Justine to support him while he looks, and
looks, and looks for work. But we won’t go into that
here…
I don’t know how these two met, but I can
tell you that I’m glad they did. Some guys just drop out
of sight when they find “the one”. Not
Tyler. In Justine, he’s found a partner who’s every bit
as social as he is. If anything, Tyler and I have grown
even closer since he met Justine. They are great
together – a really fun couple, with a happiness that is
infectious! Erik and I always look forward to getting
together with the two of them. We hope many of you get
to share the same privilege. They’re an ambitious team,
and together we know they’ll go on to do the things
they’ve always dreamed of.
You see, these two are a couple that will
last. I’ve already seen Tyler do the “in sickness and in
health” part. Justine’s right there for him too, at the
end of a long day or to encourage him in the job hunt.
And we know he NEEDS some encouraging –
but we’re not going to go there, are we?
It says something about Tyler that he
takes all this ribbing in stride. He has a great sense
of humor, and he makes room for his friends to be
themselves. Tyler taught me what true friendship is.
We’ve gone to war more times than I can count, but our
friendship lasts through it all. I would trust Tyler
with my life – he’s a friend to the end. And now, with
Justine, he’s even more focused and on a path toward a
terrific future.
Justine, thanks for keeping all the good
parts, for making room for us to be a part of your life
together, and for bringing about something new and even
better in our friend. Tyler, we love ya, man. To both of
you – may your life be full of happiness and laughter -
and all of the good stuff! If anybody deserves it, it’s
you two! Congratulations!
