I appreciate your concern for me. I, too, am
concerned for you. Your gifts are very welcome and will be appreciated by
Maria as well as myself. Guys, you don't know what you are missing. While
I am tucked up by my warm fire being waited on hand and foot, you will be
out in your cars touring the streets with nowhere to go, wishing in vain
for a lovely girl to console you and end your loneliness.
How can a football or a golf ball be compared to a
girl? Those of you who still do not know the difference, I hope will one
day find out the good news, and meet the girl of their dreams. In only
five weeks I shall be getting married to Maria. We look forward to seeing
you all at our wedding, and later to welcoming you to dinner in our new
home. Who knows, at the wedding or at our place you may meet the girl who
may change your mind about the joys of remaining a bachelor. Maria and I
have 'got a little list' of eligible bachelors, and you are all on it. We
bachelors have had many good times together, and we shall have more. They
are not over. I am not halving my friends, but doubling them. Please raise
your glass and drink a toast to Alan who has organized this party for me.
May he enjoy happy bachelor days, but not too many, before he realizes the
