I'm new to this
and would like suggestions. My mother is dead set against a country song in a church
wedding. Compromise my wishes or fight tooth and nail?
What does your pastor say? I suggest you make a deal with your mother and let your
pastor be the final arbiter.
I agree with the last post. Do check with the minister as it may be a
mute point anyway. Some churches dictate EVERY LITTLE DETAIL of your wedding, including
photography, music, your dress, the vows...etc. If your minister/church wont allow that
music anyway, no need fighting with mom.
If the church is OK with it, and you and your
fiancé really like this song (MEANING: It's WORTH fighting with Mom over), then act as
mature as you can and explain to your mother (who obviously sees you as a child still)
that you are about to have your one and only wedding, become a wife to a great man, and
that you may be young (I'm assuming - older brides don't deal with moms like this) but you
are woman now. Putting that into the picture I want you to respect my choices of how I
want to remember my wedding day.
If she is fighting with you over one little song, I can only imagine how she may be
with the 1,000++ other little details too. Good luck!!
