my daughter (jewish) and her boyfriend (non-jew) have just decided to wed. What type of ceremony can we have done with a rabbi, we live in south florida ( coral springs. Is there a listing of rabbis who will perform the ceremony at a reasonable rate?
As for the ceremony issues--in this case, you will probably need to discuss this with the specific clergy from either or both faiths who will perform the ceremony, to see what they are willing to do.
I know that some couples mix their customs in the ceremony, others do almost a complete ceremony with each clergyman. I think the options will vary depending on the individual officiants and circumstances. Another option I've seen is for couples to engage a inter-faith or non-denominational minister, since these officiants are often more open
to wide manifestations of faith and religion.
I do highly recommend a book about personalizing church ceremonies. It is called, Write Your Own Wedding,(Link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0832911461/qid=995387314/sr=1-1/foreverwed0e ) by Mordecai Brill, Marlene Halpin, and William Genne (1979) It's an old book, and I believe out of print.
However, it's the FINEST book I've ever seen on Jewish, Catholic and Protestant ceremony issues and ideas. Many public libraries have it, so you might enquire there.
If you find it, it might give you a place to start the discussions with your rabbi and/or other official.
Best wishest to you, your daughter and future son-in-law.
