My son is getting married in August. We have decided to have BBQ and all the fixings at the rehearsal dinner but I need some advice about the decorations. It is probably going to be in the church gym with tables set up.

Rehearsal dinners are usually fairly casual affairs that only last a short time. Therefore, about the only decorations that you need are centerpieces. If the gym is large and you want to section off the area where you will place tables to make the space appear smaller and more intimate, you might rent screens.

Do you have access to a nice outdoor area where you could have dinner? If so, you would need only centerpieces.

I would like to have the rehearsal dinner outside but we are from South Carolina and the dinner will be August 25. It is awfully hot and humid, not to mention the insects that time of year. I had thought about candles as the centerpieces but if you have a better idea I would appreciate any advice. I have 3 sons and this is the first getting married so I'm a little unsure about things.

You will need to check with the church to find out if candles are allowed. Many facilities no longer allow them because of the fire hazard and the possibility of a large number of candles setting off the sprinklers. If they are allowed, you will probably need to have the flame enclosed with a hurricane glass or use floating candles in a container with water. If you place the candles on a mirror tile (available from rental centers), that will reflect the light and visually increase the size of the centerpiece.
