"In Magazines Now" is a popular series of articles from my website (http://www.frazmtn.com/~ambarian
). In it, I take time to mention the current styles, products and trends which
most appeal to me in the bridal industry--- and also those that I find less-than
appealing. I update this feature seasonally based on what I see in bridal
magazines.
For spring, I have to say I was very impressed, overall with the variety of
gowns advertised and showcased. There were so many gown styles I loved, as a
matter of fact, that I've decided to ignore the ones I disliked completely, and
concentrate only on what I thought were the best gowns and trends.
What I loved--
~ My two favorite gowns of the season were both from Priscilla of Boston---
their strapless white gown with alencon lace overdress with Queen Anne neck and
frilled sleeves, and their simple satin strapped gown with subtle cowl neckline
and asymmetrical alencon lace skirt detailling. They continue to offer fine
quality and distinctive styling.

~ Kudos to the Oleg Cassini strapless ball gown with plain satin bodice,
voluminous sheer skirt and silver waist detailing available through David's
Bridal. An absolute fantasy.

~ Lazaro does it again with details not found in any other line. I especially
loved the soft rose and gold beading/embroidery details on
some of their gowns and veiling. Exquisite. They also have an attractive line
of floaty maids' gowns, including a soft white sheer
that would make a lovely bridal gown as well.

~ Jim Hjelm is another consistently superior bridal gown designer. With details
that are balanced and distinctive but never over-done, this
season Hjelm offers simplicity and elegance with grown-up romance.
http://www.jimhjelmcouture.com I
also like his Occasions lines for maids-- soft colors, nice lines, pretty
fabrics.

~ I loved the bold bustle back and interesting asymmetrical bodice detailing of
two Avine Perucci (by Rani) gowns. I also loved the
peek-a-boo embroidery, ribbons and beaded flowers on their shirred bodice
off-shoulder gown. They always offer interesting fabric and trim combinations.

~ Amalia Carrara's strapless bridal gown with crystal and silver beading on the
sheer overlay fabric from neck to hem is fascinating.
~ Randy Fenoli's beaded-bodice halter a-line is just fabulous!

~ Amsale's lace-free, bead-free asymmetrical off-shoulder gown is sweet
simplicity. http://www.amsale.com
~ St. Patrick brings a breath of spring with its long-sleeved embroidered sheer
over-dress look. http://www.sanpatrick.com
~ Bridal Originals and Alfred Angelo continue to offer nice styling at
reasonable prices.

~ It's been a while since I have been excited about a Bill Levkoff maids' gown,
but this season, I have to say I love their icy aqua/mint spaghetti strap gown
with the cream contrasting side panel. Really pretty.
