Bridal Beauty Counsel

As far as makeup products go for your skin type, I favor professional
makeup artist brands like ISOMA and RCMA because these foundations are
vegetable based emollients with a high degree of pigment that will not
interact with sensitive skin. I strongly suggest you work with a
professional make up artist to select the proper foundation that will
work with your skin type and last throughout the wedding day, one of
the most important days of your life! If you are working with a
dermatologist to remedy your skin condition, it makes perfect sense to
work with a professional makeup artist that can provide compatible
products so your skin will be in optimal balance for that special day
minimizing any chances for "flake-outs" to appear through your makeup.
Dear Suzanne:
My problem is my lips. They are very thin looking and I want to make
them look fuller for my wedding. I don't want it to look fake, but
just nicer than they are. Can you tell me some tricks to making them
look fuller, and also how to make the lipstick will last throughout my
wedding?
Melissa
Dear Melissa~
First of all, start taking care of your lips and getting them into
good condition by exfoliating them on a regular basis. You can buy
specialized products for this like Cabot's Clear Perfection Lip
Scruffer, or The Body Shop's Lip Scuff. Both are best applied after
your bath or shower to gently exfoliate the lips to remove dead skin
cells and reveal a softer smoother skin underneath. This will allow a
good surface to work with and you will find that your lipstick
products will adhere better.
Next, apply a lip primer to give good adhesion and bond with your lip
color. My favorite primer to use is Revlon's Color-Lock Lip Base.
Then, use a neutral colored lip pencil, one that is closest to the
color of your lips and carefully outline your lips in the normal way.
Then, take the same pencil and trace slightly above that line, which
should catch the top edge of your lips. Next, take that same lip
pencil and lightly fill in your lip area. Take a tissue and place over
your lined lips, and dab some loose powder all over that area. Remove
tissue, and fill in your lips with your chosen lip color. Here is an
important tip: be sure to use a lip brush for this, as a lip brush
does a perfect job of laying down the color than rubbing the tube on
your lips. There is a big difference here as rubbing only smears color
on the surface of the lips, whereas lip brushing color on gets it down
into the natural crevices, and builds upward. Now take another tissue,
blot slightly, and do the loose powder application again over the lip
color application. Finish the process by applying another coat of lip
color with a brush.
When choosing lip colors, stick with the medium tones, as anything too
bright or too dark will only accentuate the lack of fullness in your
lips. Use only nude color lip liners to outline lips as well for the
same reason, and avoid a stark contrast in your lip liner and lip
color. To enhance the illusion of fuller lips, I like to add a bit of
gold colored lipstick in the center of the lips, or even a hint of
gloss there. Too much gloss will make the lips look overdone, so the
trick here is less is more.
