Setting the Time for Your Wedding

Here are some of the things you might think about when planning the time of day for your wedding.

Consider the style of wedding you desire. Your decision for a formal or informal wedding may influence the time of day you will choose for the ceremony. If your heart is set on seeing your groom in very formal long tails and a top hat, those who will live by the rules of etiquette would tell you that an early morning wedding is not an acceptable choice.

The type of reception you choose may also influence your choice for the time of day. Are you considering a brunch, luncheon, cocktail party with hors d'oeuvvres, a buffet or sit-down dinner with dancing, or just a simple cake and beverage reception?

When deciding on morning, afternoon or evening time, consider the amount of time needed for the reception. Do you want to party or dance into the night or leave shortly after the meal or refreshments?

Will there be time between the ceremony and reception? If this is the case, consider planning entertainment or have hospitality area at a home or hotel with refreshments.

Ceremony or reception locations may be available only at certain times of the day, so that the time of day you choose may influence what locations are available to you. Also, many locations double or triple book weddings on popular weekends so that a change in time day may help you get the location you desire if it was pre-booked for an earlier or later time.

Honeymoon plans may also influence the time of day you choose. Will you be dancing the night away and staying locally or leaving early to catch a flight to your honeymoon destination?

Times available at a church, synagogue wedding chapel or temple may affect the time you choose. Keep the time open until you talk to your minister, priest, rabbi, bishop, elder or officiant.

If your dream is for a candlelight ceremony, evening is logical time for the wedding.
