My fianc้ and I both live in Atlanta
but have decided on a Florida wedding. A small wedding preferably
by the beach with 50 family members and close friends. We chose
Panama city beach as a possible destination. I received
information from the Tourism bureau but nothing on weddings. Can
you advise me on how to go about planning our dream romantic
wedding in Florida and who to contact.
I'm actually surprised that the
tourist information you received didn't have anything about
weddings. Many tourist bureaus have realized that destination
weddings are popular-- and lucrative for local businesses. If
you have not tried to contact the local chambers of commerce,
they can be another good resource. Since they are focused on
business in general, not tourism in specific, they often have
good recommendations for wedding locations, ministers, and other
vendors.
I did a quick internet search for Panama City, and found a few
websites that have wedding-specific information for the area.
The links are below. Perhaps something there will be of help,
or will give you a lead to something or someone of use.

Planning a destination wedding, in general, is usually a matter
of good research and organization. You need the location first,
usually, then you can work from their-- either with the location
staff or on your own - to make whatever other arrangements you
need/want to make.
Some hotels or resorts specialize in weddings and can help you
put together everything from a beach-front ceremony, to hotel
reception, to lodging for guests, to flowers and other details.
There are also consultants in resort areas who specialize in
planning and organizing destination weddings locally.
You can also call a travel agent and tell them what you are
looking for. They should be familiar with (or able to research)
likely locations which would suit your tastes, vision and
budget.
You will need to think through both your options and your
expectations about having guests attend and how that might be
financed. Sometimes family and friends are willing and able to
use vacation time and personal funds to attend a destination
wedding; sometimes they are not.
You can find more ideas and perspective on these issues by doing
a search for destination weddings on-line, referring to one of
the destination wedding books, and reading an article I've
written on the subject.
