My friend is getting
married in a white wedding gown and I'm the maid of honor,
possibly the only bridesmaid for the small wedding, and my
dress is black. I was wondering what type and color of
flowers would best suit this more formal look. Thanks!
Wearing a black dress sets an elegant
and up-to-the-minute tone for the wedding. Unless your
friend wants to keep things black and white, I suggest
adding color through your flowers. I have had brides who
chose arm bouquets of long stemmed roses in mixed colors
that looked very elegant. Others chose to keep it black
and white and used hand-tied bouquets. I have a wedding
coming up in December and the bride has chosen black and
ice blue as her colors. Her attendants will carry
bouquets of blue flowers, such as delphinium and
larkspur. If aroma isn't a problem for you, you might
consider using lilies in your bouquet.
You don't mention how formal your dress is. Unless it is
fairly casual, I would stay away from a mixed wild flower
look. Also avoid very dark flowers, such as deep red
roses, because they will "disappear" into your dress,
particularly in the photos. The florist will be able to
show you pictures of many different types of flowers and
arrangements for you choose from. Once your friend
decides on the formality of the wedding, the florist can
guide you in the right direction.
