Maid and Matron of Honor?
|
I
have a cousin and a best friend who both want to
be maid of honor at my wedding. Is it proper to
have a maid and a matron of honor?
You
mentioned both a maid and matron; is one woman
married and the other single? If so, this takes
care of one issue, the use of titles. You would
at least be able to give each woman a title of her
own.
But whether it's two maids or a maid and matron,
*practically* speaking, there are a couple other
considerations with having two honor attendants.
The main distinctions of the maid/matron of honor
are that she:
~ stands next to you
~ she helps you with your bouquet and train during
the ceremony (because she's closest to you at the
altar)
~ sometimes, she wears a different gown
~ sometimes, she holds a bigger/different bouquet
~ signs the marriage license.
You will need to decide how you want to split
these duties and honors. If you make it clear to
both women that you consider them equal in your
wedding, then the division of duties shouldn't be
too difficult.
For example, if one woman stands nearest you in
the wedding, perhaps the other could sit nearest
to you at the reception, or some arrangement like
that.
If you will have other bridesmaids, then you can
also choose the distinctions in dress and bouquet,
if you like, but this is a personal decision.
Don't let the titles worry you too much; just look
for a *practical* way to divide the duties, share
the honors, and enjoy both of these people who are
dear to you.
Very best wishes to you--
