The best man can look forward to
having to make two speeches in support of the
groom. The first is usually at the bachelor party
and the second at the wedding reception.
The wedding reception speech is
the most important of the two, as its made to a
large audience of guests, attendants, and the
parents of the bride and groom.
As soon as your asked to be the
best man you should start working on the speech.
Start by jotting down amusing stories about
weddings, any incidents he remembers or has been
told about the groom in his youth or recently.
Making sure to note down any triumphs in the
grooms life, sports, academics, or career. How
did they couple meet? Is there a story there? Is
the bride a very organized person, the opposite of
the groom? Is the groom a better cook than his
wife to be? All these things are possible sources
for the speech.
Collect your notes and begin
writing your wedding speech. Remember that it
should have a beginning, a middle, and an end
The beginning should be amusing
and able to capture the guests attention. It
should deal with the bride and grooms triumphs,
achievements, and antics.
The middle will include the
goodwill and best wishes from their friends and
relatives, how suited they are for changes likely
to take place in the habits of the groom. The
best man can also warn the bride about the groom.
The end message should be about
hope for the future
