Addressing and Mailing Invitations

Unless you are using the "A" list and "B" list method invitations should be mailed four to six weeks before the wedding date to allow plenty of time for everyone to make their plans and respond so that you can give sufficient notice to your caterer/reception manager.  All wedding invitations should be mailed at the same time (with the exception of the "A" or "B" list method.)

Outer envelopes are hand addressed in black ink; names and addresses are not abbreviated unless the titles are Mr., Mrs., or Dr.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nathaniel Gates
1234 Blackwell falls
Everett, Washington 98277

Some other particulars of propriety:

Cohabiting couples receive one invitation with names written on separate lines in alphabetical order

Mr.  Joseph  Nathaniel Gates
Ms. Samantha  Jones

Children over age eighteen each receive his or her own invitation

Other adult relatives who reside in the household should each receive his or her own invitation

Inside, the ungummed envelope containing the invitations should simply read "Mr. and Mrs. Watkins."  If you have minor children included in the invitation, their names should appear underneath their parents':   "Janice and John".  The words "and family" should never be used on wedding invitations.
