Heart Pop-Up Card

Materials
black paper
6" x 9" white or cream paper
colored paper
black thread
heart stickers (optional)
photographs (optional)
scissors or Ellison's "accordion with cutout" die cut and Ellison "heart" die cut
glue stick
tape

Steps
If you have access to the Ellison "accordion with cutout" die cut, skip Step 1. Fold the 6" x 9" piece of white or cream paper in half lengthwise and cut out an oval shape in the center using scissors (figure A). The card can be used vertically or horizontally depending on the position of the photographs and the center dangle.

  1. Fold on the dotted lines as shown in figure A.
  2. Arrange the folds so the section with the oval stands up like a tent in the center.
  3. Cut a piece of black paper 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" larger on all sides that the white piece of paper. This piece will become the outside cover of the card. Fold this piece in half lengthwise
  4. Cut two equally sized hearts from colored paper. Make sure the hearts are small enough to fit within the oval cutout. If the Ellison machine and heart die cut are not available, cut out two hearts with scissors. Any shape can take the place of the heart cutouts. The featured project incorporated a cutout spelling LOVE.
  5. Sandwich an end of black thread between the two hearts using a glue stick. Measure the thread so that the heart dangles in the center of the oval, leaving enough thread to tape the other end of the thread to the outer edge of the oval inside on the upper flat section. Sandwich the rest of the thread between the white and black panels when fastened. Cut thread.
  6. Glue the black cover to each of the white end panels, leaving 1/4" allowance all around. The black outer card should frame the white inside.
  7. Embellish with photographs and stickers if desired.

Souvenir Envelope

Materials
paper envelope
plastic page protector
scissors or Ellison "gift card" die cut
plain color sheet of paper (optional)
double-stick, acid-free adhesive

Steps

  1. Unfold the paper envelope and use it as a template.
  2. Using scissors, cut a plastic page protector in the shape of the unfolded envelope.
  3. Using the paper envelope as a guide, fold the cutout plastic envelope in the same manner.
  4. Using double-stick adhesive, assemble into an envelope and attach it to a scrapbook.
  5. Place souvenir inside plastic envelope. To make the souvenir really stand out from the page, cut a sheet of contrasting color paper to slide in behind the souvenir as a background. The flap of the envelope should be exposed so it can be opened and closed for access to the souvenir.
