submitted by http://www.sewing.org/

A rectangle of fabric and ribbon flowers is made into a pretty bag to hold the cards bearing good wishes from the wedding guests. This bag would also be good to hold money from the "Dollar a Dance" a special dance with the Bride. A traditional dance for some families, and the money is an extra gift for the Bride and Groom to enjoy on their honeymoon.

Materials:

  • 1 1/2 yd. of 7/8 in wide wire-edge ombr ribbon in white and ivory.
  • 7/8 yd of in wide-edge ribbon in green
  • 7/8 yd of 5/8 in wide singleface stain ribbon in light pink
  • 2 yd of 1 in wide novelty ribbon trim in white
  • 27 by 13 in fabric for lining
  • 2 pre-made ribbon roses in ivory
  • 8 pre-made swirl ribbon roses in ivory
  • Pre-made ribbon roses in pink
  • Pre-made small ribbon rose in pink
  • 3 rattail cord in white
  • 3/4 in wide pearl button

    Directions:

Note: All seams are 1/2 inch unless otherwise stated
  1. With right sides together, fold up one edge of the bag fabric; bag now measures 16 1/2 by 13 inches. Stitch side seams, stopping the stitching 1/2-inch from top edge. Repeat for lining fabric. Turn right sides out and press.
  2. Make two cabbage roses, the 7/8-inch ombrČ ribbon and eight folded leaves from green ribbon from the 5/8-inch green ribbon. (Instructions for the cabbage roses where not able to be added to the web due to technical difficulty, our apologizes for any inconvenience. Very clear instructions are included in the book .)
  3. Cut 5/8-inch light pink satin ribbon into two lengths. Make a small gathered rose from each length by stitching across on pulling tightly, and stitching ends together.
  4. Decorate the bag with ribbon roses and leaves, using photo as a guide. Stitch in place. Stitch a piece of the 1-inch novelty ribbon trim in place across the flap edge on the right side of the fabric.
  5. Fold the rattail in half to form a loop. Stitch at center of bag flap. Stitch remaining length of 1-inch novelty ribbon trim at side edges to form shoulder strap.
  6. With right sides together, pin top and side edges of bag and lining together. Stitch up side, across edge, and down side, being careful not to catch inside of bag, lining or shoulder strap.
  7. Place bag lining inside bag and pin remaining edge of bag and lining together. Stitch across, leaving a 4-inch opening for turning. Turn bag right sides out and press whipstitch opening closed.
  8. Fold flap down and mark position for button. Stitch in place through both bag and lining fabric make a tiny stitch in each bottom corner through all layers to hold lining in place.
