THE CROWNING TOUCH
All crafts designed and made by Sue Bolton.

This beautiful and surprisingly easy-to-make bridal headpiece with detachable veil can be made to match your Victorian bustle topper. The instructions for the headpiece are the same, except that rather than the tulle ribbon accent, you'll be adding a haircomb and a long, detachable veil. The colour scheme for both the bustle topper and the headpiece shown here was pure white with accents of palest blush pink. Another option is to add a stronger accent colour to complement colours in your bridal bouquet or reception décor.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
four pre-made stemless roses in pale blush pink satin, available in the bridal department of fabric stores
three white craft silk flowers on wired stems with leaves
three pearl sprays
fine-gauge craft wire
needle and thread
clear hair comb
8 cm. of Velcro
5 metres of pearl trim
2 metres of metre-wide tulle veiling
glue gun and glue sticks
DIRECTIONS
  1. Follow steps one to four of the Victorian bustle topper, previous page, to make the floral decoration.
  2. Attach decoration to the top edge of the comb with needle and thread.
  3. Whipstitch pearl beading to both long edges and one end of the tulle.
  4. Gather the unbeaded end of the veil into a bundle 8 cm. wide and stitch securely.
  5. Glue one side of the Velcro to the outer side of the hair comb, placing it as close to the top of the comb as possible.
  6. Glue the matching side of the Velcro to the gathered end of the veil. Reattach Velcro halves.

Approximate total cost: $30.
Approximate time to make: two hours.
